San Isidro Festivities 2025
The San Isidro Festivities 2025 in Madrid are held in honour of San Isidro Labrador (Saint Isidore the Labourer), patron saint of the city. For several days, the various neighbourhoods of Madrid are alive with colour and a festive atmosphere, featuring a full programme that includes open-air concerts, traditional dances like the chotis, firework displays, and activities for the entire family.
Along with culture and fun, gastronomy takes centre stage: it is typical to enjoy traditional Santa Clara rosquillas (ring-shaped pastries) and dishes like the iconic squid sandwiches or the popular gallinejas and entresijos (deep-fried lamb tripe preparations), all paired with refreshing Madrid lemonade.

During the San Isidro Festivities, it is traditional to wear the chulapo costume, typically paired with a Manila shawl and a red carnation, or a black or chequered cap with a waistcoat or short jacket.
Of course, we must not overlook the most traditional dance at these festivities: the chotis. This dance, consisting of simple steps, is easy to learn. Although it is said to have originated in the Czech Republic, it spread over time to several countries before becoming a symbol of Madrid today.
